About Professor François-Xavier Madec
Specialist in Urethral Stricture and Urethroplasty
Appointed Professor of Urology in 2024 and affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine of Paris-Saclay University (UVSQ), François-Xavier Madec practices at the Ambroise Paré–Hartmann Private Hospital Group, 48 ter Boulevard Victor Hugo, 92200 Neuilly-sur-Seine, in the Paris area.
His main field of expertise is advanced urethral reconstruction, one of the most specialized areas within urology. This discipline requires dedicated training, high-level surgical expertise, and a comprehensive understanding of the full spectrum of urethral stricture disease. He performs advanced urethroplasty techniques as well as selected innovative treatments, with a constant focus on durable, functional, and long-term outcomes. His expertise also extends to complex adult genital reconstruction.
His approach is individualized, analytical, and guided by reconstructive principles. He is currently recognized as a national referral expert in urethral stricture disease and regularly receives patients referred by urologists from across France and abroad for highly specialized care.
He completed his medical training in France at Université Paris Cité and his specialist training in urology at Nantes University Hospital (CHU de Nantes). During his residency and Chief Resident years, he developed advanced expertise in adult and pediatric urological surgery, with a strong focus on reconstructive urethral procedures.
For nearly 10 years, he contributed to structuring a leading Parisian urethral reconstructive programme and developed a high-volume referral practice. At Hôpital Foch (Suresnes), he further refined advanced reconstructive techniques, introduced new urethroplasty approaches into practice, published his clinical series, and contributed to teaching in reconstructive urology.
He has also repeatedly visited major international reconstructive centres to broaden his experience in complex urethroplasty and advanced reconstructive strategies, particularly for redo and high-complexity cases. Until the age of 40, he was a member of the Reconstructive Urology – Urethral Stricture Group Working Party of the European Association of Urology Young Academic Urologists (EAU YAU). He later co-founded the Genitourinary Reconstruction Group within the French Association of Urology (GURU AFU), with the aim of improving patient management and establishing clearer standards, from evaluation to surgical treatment in urethral reconstructive conditions.
In response to the growing demand for specialized urethral reconstruction, he opened URETRE PARIS in 2026, a dedicated urethral reconstruction unit within the Ambroise Paré–Hartmann Private Hospital Group in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. There, he provides the full spectrum of care for urethral stricture disease, from expert evaluation to advanced urethroplasty and the management of the most complex reconstructive cases, with a constant focus on durable functional outcomes.

Publications and Research
Author of more than one hundred peer-reviewed publications indexed on PubMed, as well as several chapters in the Encyclopedia of Medical and Surgical Sciences (EMC), his academic work focuses on reconstructive urology and genital reconstruction. A substantial part of his research is dedicated to urethral stricture disease, with particular emphasis on advanced management and urethroplasty techniques.
His research is primarily clinical and practice-oriented, focusing on the development, refinement, and evaluation of surgical treatments—especially urethroplasty. His work is patient-centered and directly applicable to daily practice, with a strong emphasis on surgical technique, outcomes analysis, innovation in reconstructive strategies, and long-term functional results. Rather than basic science, his work aims to improve surgical practice, standardize care, and optimize real-world outcomes for patients.
He is regularly invited to speak at international meetings, participates in live-surgery teaching sessions, and collaborates with selected centers worldwide to perform or support complex reconstructive procedures.
Understanding Urethral Stricture & Reconstruction
Academic Recognitions & Professional Affiliations
Professor François-Xavier Madec is a French urologist specializing in urogenital reconstructive surgery. He is a member of the French Association of Urology, where he co-directs the scientific committee of GURU (Genitourinary Reconstruction Group), and a member of the French National Academy of Surgery. He is also affiliated with the European Association of Urology, within the Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons (GURS) section.
Teaching and Training the Next Generation of Reconstructive Urologists
He is actively involved in national postgraduate education and serves as faculty in several advanced training programs in urology and reconstructive surgery. He is Co-Director and Academic Lead of the Inter-University Diplomas in Penile Surgery and Urogenital Reconstruction at UVSQ (Paris-Saclay University). He also teaches in the Inter-University Diploma in Pediatric Surgery, contributes to the national curriculum of the French College of Urology in andrology, participates in the Advanced Specialized Training (FST) in Andrology for reconstructive urology, and is involved in Continuing Medical Education programs organized by the French National Professional Council of Urology (CNPU).
Professor Madec welcomes motivated physicians wishing to gain exposure to advanced reconstructive urology within a structured clinical and academic environment. Depending on their level and objectives, opportunities may be offered to residents, fellows, visiting surgeons, and international observers. Exposure may include complex urethral reconstruction, preoperative evaluation, intraoperative decision-making, postoperative follow-up, and participation in expert multidisciplinary discussions.
Three principles guide his teaching: precision, rigor, and responsibility. The aim is not only to transmit surgical technique, but also to develop sound clinical judgment and a thoughtful, patient-centered reconstructive approach.
Leadership & Professional Affiliations
Referral Recognition
Professor François-Xavier Madec is currently recognized as a national referral expert in the management of urethral strictures. In this capacity, he regularly receives patients referred by other urologists across France for high-level expert evaluation, particularly for urethral stenosis and complex urethroplasty cases, including recurrent strictures after endoscopic treatment, long or multi-segment strictures, post-surgical, post-hypospadias or post-radiation sequelae, and cases involving multiple prior procedures.
His expertise is based on a specialized reconstructive approach, with individualized diagnostic and therapeutic strategies aimed at achieving durable and functional outcomes.
International Scientific Collaborations
URETRE PARIS is involved in international scientific collaborations in genitourinary reconstructive surgery through participation in major learned societies dedicated to the field. This includes active involvement within the European Association of Urology (EAU) Section of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons, as well as its reconstructive networks and links with the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons (GURS). These collaborations support ongoing education, scientific exchange, and the maintenance of high standards in complex reconstructive urology.
